I'm JotitOwl. I am a fantasy writer and publish web novels online. My shelves may look a little bare, but they’re growing, and I’m proud of every story both here and still in my head.
I'm a storyteller, a worldbuilder, a daydreamer, a doodler, a scribbler, a collector of stories, a chaotic semblance of a human being, and - sometimes - an actual writer. For me the magic of fantasy lives in the thrill of exploring new worlds as they unfold beneath you. Stories can be anything you want them to be, and there's nothing better than watching them grow into something fierce and alive!
My Writing Philosophy
The world does not revolve around the characters. Rather the characters interact with and influence the world - and the world is allowed to push back.
My Writerly Self
I'm afraid I'm actually quite boring in real life. My whole world revolves around stories. I go to work and tell stories. I come home and write stories. When I'm not writing my own stuff, I'm reading someone else's story. And when my energy is high but my focus is low, I play through stories. I'm obsessed with them. Wherever the stories go, I follow with all abandon.
Some more things about me:
-
I'm a soda addict - Dr. Pepper is my vice, but I will drink almost anything fizzy.
-
I have a bookshelf full of books, half of which I have read and half of which I tell myself I will read before I go buy a new book (never works)
-
One of my shelves is dedicated solely to my collection of notebooks - fancy leathery ones I can't seem to stop spending my money on. Are all of them full? ...No. I like to think they're waiting for the right story.
-
I'm fueled by soda and hyperfixation. If you notice this archive growing in a thousand different directions at once, you've met my attention span. The polite term is "enthusiastic."
I have been writing for many years now. I have never published my own work outside of my web novels, but I have been teaching myself the art every day since I was ten and decided writing was my future. I have a web novel I'm actively writing on Royal Road. I have many stories unfinished and almost as many worlds inside my head that are waiting to live on paper. There is something deeply fulfilling about finally putting your stories out there and trusting yourself.
I don't know where this journey will take me, but I know it'll be a great adventure!
If you want to check out more, I suggest heading over to Instagram for small updates or Royal Road for my actual stories. Feel free to subscribe to the mailing list as well! It will give you automatic updates when I post to my blog.
Welcome to the Archives!
