✦Documented Narrative Involvement

Public sentiment speaks highly of their monarch. King Fenric's rise to authority was unexpected given his youth, but welcome to a kingdom whose court had elected older and harder monarchs in the past. His reign has so far targeted civic reforms and order, rule of law supporting the people, and municipal reforms. He appointed to his side individuals who he believed would bring Adern forward into a better future - Archmage Veylan Caelan, Count Josiah Lyndon, and High Commander Garrick Voss, who also brought Field Commander Elias Varne and the Second Knight Order with him.

The events of the narrative began before the war for Fenric. Early in his reign, a rash of murders plagued Bastion's Reach. The public records attribute these horrendous actions to a minor noble called Brennan. Fenric took a hard, fast stance against his actions, erasing Brennan’s household from the peerage and striking its name from all civic and noble registers. However, the truth remained unproven. Fenric's choice to remove the threat from Adern quickly resulted in a proxy taking the fall and allowing the true criminal, a magister by the name of Varos, to go free. While Fenric, Veylan, and Lyndon were able to banish him thanks to minor connections to Brennan that implicated his involvement, it was not enough to gain his arrest and execution.

"The incident remains one of my greatest failures as monarch," Fenric has said in his personal interviews. "It has taught me that sometimes speed and efficiency are not as important as care and thoroughness. I do not regret the lives that were saved. I do regret the lives that we could have saved."

The Adernian–Savidorian Conflict began following Fenric’s refusal of what Adern formally recorded as an insulting and strategically dangerous proposal for its western lowlands and remaining fertile fields. While framed as negotiation, the offer was widely believed to be made in bad faith, and Adern, still weakened by territorial losses sustained during the Seven Year Demon War and Atalan’s subsequent reclamation claims, possessed little land it could concede without jeopardizing its survival. Fenric declined to negotiate under such terms, leaving Adern with few viable alternatives. Contemporary accounts suggest the kingdom entered the conflict from necessity.

King Fenric's involvement in the events surrounding the Monster of Savidor might reasonably have remained limited to royal authorization, except knowledge of Varos' involvement and his past guilt proved too overwhelming. In his personal interviews, he admitted he would not have gotten close to the situation. When his high commander proposed study over execution, Fenric's approval was reluctant yet forthcoming, wanting to give Garrick every possible advantage during this situation. He elected continued engagement through regular reports and facilitating the resources necessary to sustain the effort. This oversight was what placed Fenric among those present when the true nature of the situation was ultimately revealed. He choose, in not a small part thanks to the past, to assist Garrick in rehabilitation of Luka.

When Luka's true origins were revealed to the public, Fenric chose to publicly affirmed his decision to place Luka under royal protection, framing the matter as one of responsibility. His stand has since remained unchanged, signaling a deliberate commitment to Luka's preservation despite widespread opposition. Further access to records remains restricted, thus the statements here remain speculation.

Supplementary Records

✦ Physical Appearance

Fenric is youthful and striking. His blue eyes are a rarity in Adern. He carries with him an effortless charm and is handsome in a way that invites rather than demanding attention. His smile can promise calm or it can hint at trouble and one rarely knows which one they will get. Court whispers follow him closely, and his presence alone has drawn the interest of more than a few ambitious young noblewomen.

✦ Temperament & Disposition

Fenric is described in multiple accounts to be a fair and just ruler. His reforms have changed countless lives. However, beneath his charming smile, a calculating minds lives. His aide, Josiah Lyndon, reports his majesty has on more than one occasion orchestrated multiple political performances to ferret out spies and snakes.

On the other hand, Fenric seems to refuse leaving the finer details alone if the situation interests him. His guard kindly describes him as proactive. His captain, Roland, more willingly describes it as reckless. And yet many are grateful that their monarch is not one to sit around.

✦ Capabilities & Known Talents

Primary Strength -

Fenric possess a keen eye for talent and discnernment. He places trust deliberately, empowering those he deems worthy with real authority rather than ceremonial roles. When his judgment is correct, the results are exceptionally effective.

Secondary Talent -

Fenric excels at positioning talent where their skills are most effective. He understands what individuals can do even if they don't. He often assembles combinations of personnel that amplify one another's strengths, making him quite dangerous.

Notable Flaw -

Fenric has a tendency to assume personal responsibility for outcomes tied to his decisions, which often drive his future ones. Key on his lists are his decision about Savidor's demands and what led to Luka's current state.

Notable Weakness -

Fenric demonstrates a marked distaste for paperwork. Detailed paperwork, extended reviews, and frequent procedural minutiae are often deferred to trusted individuals, mainly Lyndon.

✦ Associations

Garrick Voss -

His chosen high commander; Garrick's strong moral drive and an eye for personnel match Fenric's own, but Fenric knows he has a wider eye for battlefields and strategy, making him an exceptional and needed ally.

Amelia Voss -

His friend's wife and personal thorn in his side; Fenric is often more frightened of Amelia than Garrick. Her influence in high society is vast.

Captain Roland -

Captain of his personal guard; Fenric both trusts him completely and actively avoids the need for him.

Veylan Caelan

His archmage; Fenric's one expert in anything magical is also one of his best advisors. Fenric highly respects Veylan in all matters, but can't resist teasing him.

Elias Varne -

Field Captain to Garrick; their relationship would never have been if not for Garrick. Varne was brought along after Fenric recruited Garrick as high commander. Fenric respects the gruff, stocky commander for his candor.

Josiah Lyndon -

A count of Adern; Fenric brought Lyndon on for his impeccable paperwork skills and his political savvy. Where Fenric fails, Josiah often fills the gap.

Luka -

Unexpected relationship; Fenric once viewed this boy as the monster who tore Adern apart. Now, he brings secret sweets to him when Garrick and Amelia are not watching.
